Just to make a fast comment before I take-off for a few days:

[quote]
Jefferson always went to prayer meetings at the
House of Representatives and never forbade worship in federal buildings. It's a
wonder that he would want to separate the path of Church and State when he never
did in his private life. Perhaps there will be a religious rebirth in the near future.
[end quote]

I can see why Jefferson and a lot of other deeply religious people, today as in the past, would be rabid proponents of a separation between church and state. I definitely am for a separation of the two.

Just look at the countries in this world that do not separate the two and at the internal cahos, turmoil, or civil war this can lead to. If there were only one 'church' in the world that would be one thing. With all the various 'churches' its a whole different story.

Look at the Sudan. The only time there has been peace in that country since 1955 was during the few years there was a separation between church and state, about 1972 to 1981. The rest, when the church and state (Islam) have gone hand and hand, civil war.
