TOKYO, March 30 (Reuters) - Japan's domestic shipments of Windows-based workstations grew 33.8 percent in calendar 2000 and currently account for 60 percent of the overall workstation market, a market research firm said on Friday. More powerful than personal computers, workstations are used for advanced graphics and software design, and run on competing operating systems, Unix and Windows. IDC Japan said shipments of Windows-based workstations swelled to 104,570 units in 2000. Overall shipments of workstations, including those in the traditional Unix-based market, grew 11.9 percent from the previous year to 173,246.
