"Yes, Gilmore may well have staked a claim to the "pragmatic conservative" role. Fiscal conservative, realist, Christian, ex-governor. Rooted in common sense."

Sigh.... (How does one spot a conservative realist amidst a stage full of fantasists and snake oil sellers? The lack of cartoon coloration around the edges?)

"Very Interesting. When's the next chance for the other nine to rip him up? <vbg>"

Yes, I was thinking the same thing: should make for an interesting debate.

(Rudy/Mitt/McCain could dry gulch a lone Texas Ron Paul... But Paul and Gilmore makes for *two* of the most committed conservatives on the stage. Hunter has been making similar noises, and his 'conservative' credentials are equally long. Fred's entrance might divert the chattering class' attentions for a while... but when he joins the budding pack of conservative realists, even Rudy McRomney will not be able to slick-over that policy difference....)
