The charitable thing would have been to take the cake stealer, give him a cup of coffee and a piece of cake and talk to him. It would have been amazing what they might have learned and been able to help the man. After talking with him the police and owner may have decided to help the man. I shall never forget a friend who worked for a local Fairfax County Supervisor(yes Republican) telling me about an apparently homeless man who was begging in Reston Virginia for money to buy food. People would walk by him------not this friend, she told him I will not give you money, come in with me and we will eat and talk. As she entered the restaurant with this homeless man she was given all kinds of stares. She fed him, learned his life story-------and why he was on the street. I don't recall what she did to help him, but help him she did-----. That's the one on one conservative approach. mj
