Steve.: AAPL's CEO has to be a inspirational leader and hard bargainer
Steve Jobs is CEO "true grit" having spawned AAPL/NeXT/UNITY then adroitly improved Dr. Gil's recovery plan .
OS 8.0 held the faithful plus was a clever/legal opportunity to adjust all OS licensing , which now will be centered on gaining investment in AAPL's crown jewel UNITY .
Jobs' steps to CEO consideration can only be criticised by AAPL's Board and to a limited extent Dr. Gil , and both appear to support him .
Dr. Gil, with Ms. Hancock , targeted servers for AAPL's return to profitability , a market also recognized by IBM, CPQ , MSFT etc.
Jobs' background equips him to (re)negotiate with IBM and MOT who hopefully will seek licensing UNITY along with their committmment to supply PowerPCs timely .
When studied , the "new" board contains influential people who can assist AAPL to obtain its "recovery" goals plus MSFT is now supportive .
INTC admits "merced" is two years away, MSFT has a FTC monkey on its back and AAPL is bringing out a new line 11/10/97 . AAPL at COMDEX is not planned but heavy advertising leading to MacWorld is promised .
IMHO - IBM will prove friendly due to its Aptiva flop and MOT will follow . Oracle will buy 18,000 AAPL NCs for its education network .
Clones: If IBM had its PC licensing back they too would be restictive !
My opinion , investment guess and hoped for scenario . Jim K. |
