I see it a little differently. It is msft and its platform stranglehold that hurts Corel. IBM's frontal assault on msft office legitimates alternatives to msft office and promotes alternatives to msft windows - two vital steps in creating a level playing field.

I like Corel's chances in a world where choices are driven by product feature and quality, not platform compatibility. Word Perfect is an excellent word processor, maybe the best out there. Corel has built a terrific suite around it. Word Perfect has a relatively large existing install base very loyal to the product. On a level playing field, Corel stacks up nicely. IBM appears bent on leveling the field, and they're big enough to do it.

Corel can be a big winner here, IF it's not too late to the party.
