MoonBrother, Please read the "* S/A" note again and you'll find that they included the formula for computing the number. (* S/A = Shares Short / Avg Daily Volume.) It has nothing to do with when short positions are established or covered.

BTW, Short interest has been relatively flat for the last 3 months, but increased 2-1/2 times during the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter after reaching a high of around $6 in October. It would appear that the majority of current shorts are in the $3 to $6 range (which is the approximate trading range for SYQT during last quarter).
