Again, I'm not banking on the market being adversely impacted on a psychological level for some months. It is not in Wall Street's interest to give too much play to the Y2K issue at the moment. However, with the SEC's forthcoming requirements, they will be left with little choice.
As for the Yugo analogy, my point was the although it was repackaged and sold into the US market(with some slight modernization), it was still an older, limited technology. This story reminds me of a high school buddy who put a 393 V-8(balanced and blue printed and fueled by Av Gas) into a Vega. He actually had to cut holes into the front fender wells to accomodate the exhaust headers.
Why? Just to prove that he could do it.... :0) Not very practical, but it did some awesome wheelies and was quick off the startling line. However, its basic architecture continued to prove a limitation to practicality. The point? DOS is DOS, regardless of the software tweaking that MSFT might incorporate to make it look spiffy. Must I remind everyone that your basic Wintel system stills has a 640K memory limitation?? Yeah, MSFT found ways to circumvent the limitation, but at a greater cost in reliability and ease of use.
