The objective of the war in Afghanistan is to defeat Al-Qaeda and stabilize the region. We can win battles with a superior military force but we cannot defeat a radicalized tyrannical regime until the people of Afghanistan see the alternative to be more in line with their best interests. They see only the dangerous consequences associated with alcoholic culture and abhor the thought of it seeping into their society. When the very face of the alternative begins to be seen as raging alcoholic braggadocio, it is time for a change. McChrystal got too big for his britches by presenting such a public image and has caused major damage to the mission, a victory for the Taliban. Rolling Stone did exactly what they could be expected to do, no blame falls on them at all. Only a fool makes a pet of a rattle snake, then blames it for getting a venemous strike.
