I think the bigger point is that our gotcha press and public mentality sucks. We spend so much time on private personal stuff that nobody in their right mind wants to be subjected to the abuse. So we get a lot of people "not in their right mind" running for office and getting caught and it feeds on itself. We used to be more civil.

I miss the days when we didn't know or care who a politician was sleeping with or who a general thought was an idiot. Easier to find talent.
