Hey Raymond, there's a good article that seems to be right up your alley in Wired magazine this month - The Energy Web. It's online too at :

Don't know if you've posted or seen this yet -- I can't keep up with all the discussions.

Also not sure if this link includes the entire magazine article verbatim, but it's worth a read and has a lot of good links too.

One of the main points is the error of the current administration in its policies of cutting off movements towards developing alternative grid arrangements, and demand side management, but pushing the status quo instead.

Sounds like Bonneville and PNNL up in your area is doing some interesting things too.
