I've always felt, far in the recesses of my mind, that, since IP ain't isochronous, it will be very very difficult to do clean voice and video over it. Your description leaves me leaning even more towards an ATM or IEEE1394 solution. It seems that VoIP is closer to the sow's ear than the silk purse.
