<that AMD will have trouble manufacturing K7's in volume>
The yield may be respectable however:
1. The die size is large (Possible initial yield probs)
2. Will it yield more or less than $10,000 per wafer (30 die)
3. How many wafers per month dare they allocate to K7 (risk).

The have K6s to build that flow to the market easily. They have 20,000+ wafers per month to allocate. If the .25 micron device yields 30/wafer and they allocate 5,000 wafers/month that will provide 150,000 K7 per month or 450,000 for Q3 ($180 M). This scenario would not yield AMD huge profits overall for Q3.

Of course there is tremendous upside. It could yield 60/wafer or more which would yield ($360 M) large profits for the quarter. This is a pretty fast ramp. With the .18 micron version of the K7 starting production during Q3 the numbers look sensational. They number of die per wafer increase from 30-60 to perhaps 200 or more. Q4 is going to be exciting!

Scumbria: How many wafers/month for .25 micron K7 fab do you think they should risk for Q3?
