I have considered something like that as well. Buffett says he uses the 30yr treasury because its a long term risk free investment, so I had considered using the return on a vanguard index fund or something like that as a discount rate. I think the Total Stock Market Index Fund returns something like 9.17% since inception.

Has anybody read any books on the topic of modeling a company's value? I have been reading some of Aswath Damodaran's material he provides on his website, and I was considering buying one of his books. Has anybody read one of his books by any chance?
