Yeah, I know. HP didn't start it but they were the second one on board. It's really a shame how things turned out.

And I don't know, at this point how I feel about Itanic. It is of sufficient stature to effect the entire economy. But it's enormously, horribly complex.

I've run a number of software projects that were failing. And I've several times said '*THE END* -- time to start over'. And have never had a project go over initial time or budget estimate that I've had ultimate responsibility for.

But it's damn hard to say "it's over, that was a learning experience, now it's time to start again" to a batch of engineers/programmers who have been working 10-12 hours/day.

And it's harder yet to tell your boss that *YEP, You've been paying OT for the last three months & I think we ought to PITCH the design and start over*,

But it's frequently the best way.

And not done often enough.
