It's not a zero sum game. There are people who are currently invested in all 3 companies and expect them all to make money. Cyrix can beat the NC crowd with their 5Gx86, Intel can make money as the volume leader, and AMD can make money as the main alternative. Or, Intel can drastically cut prices and everyone will lose money like the airline industry. I don't think AMD or Cyrix or their fans claim they'll beat Intel. Since they don't have Intel's manufacturing capacity, they realize it's impossible. But, that's not the same thing as claiming they'll make money in a smaller niche.
