At that time there was not much difference between the parties when it came to the cold war, and the 'russian scare', sad to say. Kennedy out-hawked Nixon, for goodness sakes. Wanted to put missles in Canada (thank you Canada for saying no thanks).

And still we have those pesky 'liberal interventialists' (sp?). I don't think much more of them than a conservative hawk. I am quite happy Biden is VP and not Sec of State.

From what I've read, Eisenhower was not pleased to go about meddling, but felt compelled by forces at home. We could use a few more of him. Gates reminds me some of him. I am happy with him as Sec of Defence.
