I see that no one responded to you, yet, so here it is. First, there are two Q, the real Q (quintet) consists of the following highly volatile stocks and is used mostly for raids along either an ascending or descending channel: BRCD, BRCM, QLGC, EMLX, and JNPR. A year ago, SCMR was in that group but got "fired" for "lack of acceptable performance" (g), JNPR took its place. Then we have the bio-Q, a group of bio and generic Pharma, consisting of IDPH, IMCL, TARO, CRA and DNA which are used mostly for few days trading in slightly broader range. Actually in both TARO and IMCL, I am patiently waiting for a range break.

I have no answer to your second question, I presume Ex selected few stocks we lay a lot with ere for that list.
