Also, there were a lot of P4 systems with the i845 chipset and SDRAM. These systems are quickly replacing DRDRAM P4 at retail. Yet, I do not recall a single PC magazine providing a performance comparison of these poorly performing Intel systems.

This is not good. The obvious outcome here is that all the benchmarks are done using P4+RDRAM (relatively great perf), but what's commonly available is P4+SDRAM (relatively great price). Consumer will just remember P4 and buy it. So, the P4's SDRAM disadvantage could amount to nothing at all. This would not be good for AMD.

Infact, this could become a huge advantage for Intel. Magazines score $2000 P4 (RDRAM) system and call it "top of the line". Consumer goes to store and sees P4 (SDRAM) system for $1200. Thinks she is getting a steal, and goes for it.

Does anyone know why AMD isn't releasing a 2000+ XP? Seems really bizarre that they would go on such a risky strategy, and then not go all the way.
