>>Could they be planning on selling to Japan ?<<

Japan is a hard case to crack<g> Bet. 1-11 this year, China exported to Japan $65.9 billion and imported $85.6 billion from Japan, surpassed the US and became the largest trading partner of Japan. I do not have data now, but I guess most of export to Japan are clothing, agricultural products.

Maybe some years down the road, when Japan has no enough labor to keep the core manufacturing in Japan (right now they keep the core manufacturing in Japan, and only move some low end, unskilled off shore), then China can export other goods than clothing/agri. product. to Japan.
