BANGALORE, Apr 14, 1999 (Asia Pulse via COMTEX) -- Compaq India has announced the launch of the fully featured multi-media 'Presario 4010', unveiling a strategy to become the largest home personal computer brand in India.
India was the first country to roll out Compaq Presario 4010, priced at Rs 45,900, in the Asia Pacific region, top company officials said.
Managing director of Compaq India Som Mittal said the announcement was part of Compaq's strategy to be the leader in the home segment.
The launch will spearhead the company's efforts to expand its market share and achieve the number one position in the home segment, Mittal said.
Company director (consumer division) Ravi Swaminathan said India was expected to be the most important market for home PCs for Compaq Asia for at least the next five years. It would grow faster than any other market in the region, including high growth market like China, he added.
Quoting a study by International Data Corporation (IDC), Swaminathan said the home segment in India was expected to grow this year at 96 per cent.
