Compaq Japan to Bolster Year-End/New Year Y2K Support

April 14, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Compaq Computer K.K. of Japan announced its
support/service menu comprising an extensive year-end and New Year support and
service system to cope with the Year 2000 software problem.

The menu also comprises a "Contingency Plan" for risk management and restoration
planning, a company official said.

The service for finding non-Y2K compliant modules is priced at 5,000 yen per system
per day. Other menu items are priced upon request. (119.86 yen = US$1)

The services include.
1) free distribution of a template for preparation of risk management and restoration
plans;
2) an advance check-up service for backup equipment;
3) acceptance of year-end/New Year support requests based on an advance
reservation system;
4) a Y2K compliance identification service which (when trouble occurs) identifies the
specific component of a system that is causing the trouble by using an exclusive
telephone line reserved in advance; and
5) a service that informs Compaq sites outside of Japan that trouble occurred in Japan
(because the Y2K problem will hit Japan ahead of other countries).

The services apply to the Alpha System, VAX System, client PCs and PC servers for
business users as well as machines based on the Tru64 UNIX, OpenVMS and
Windows NT operating systems. User applications will not be addressed.

Compaq Computer's year-end/New Year support for Tandem products is expected to
be announced by the end of June.
