David, I actually remember getting a little ticked at Balmer for his comments on tech stock being overvalued.
I was thinking...why doesn't he just keep his mouth shut. The comments generally hurt Microsoft just as much and it was already underperforming.

He has proved a lot of people wrong (including myself).

The point about buying up companies now makes a lot of sense.

In addition, even if internet or speculative software stocks are looking to be bought out.....the one big question the CEOs of small companies will be asking themselves is....

"Do I really want Yahoo or Amazon shares in exchange or should I take a lower bid from Microsoft."

The answer is very obvious.....now! <g>
I also bet the answer would have been different over a year ago.

BTW--Also remember the CEO of Lycos--Bob Davis accepting the deal to be acquired by a traditional media company. Guess what..CMGI made sure it did not go through. I guess they were hoping a rival bid from "yahoo" <g>
In hindsight, Davis was one smart CEO...too bad shareholders were not listening.
