Welcome back, Mq, I missed your posts... I figured if mentioning Ed S. wouldn't bring you out of hiding, then what would... :)

Back to Ed. We differ with regard to just about everything about Ed's story, particularly - his motivations. You think he is a patriot who was out to save America and the world. I think his interests were more self-centered. One day he was a just another computer geek - and the next day he's one of a half a dozen of most recognizable people on the planet.

It appears that Ed did something unique - this is probably the only case in history when a self-driven individual, seemingly unaffiliated with any government or organization, was able to mount a successful major intelligence operation against a superpower.

I disagree that "vetting" via some elitist big media outfit - foreign or domestic - constitutes an acceptable procedure for a release of secrets. Most of the media, from what we can see, are intellectually corrupt, biased hacks.

......One can only wonder about the quality of the tradecraft and of the security procedures of our big, bulky intelligence services -- if a low level contract employee can walk in - and ship out astronomical volumes of "secrets". That's where the *real* problem resides. Incompetence is a funny thing - if it's present in one area, it's probably generalized. Could explain a thing or two as to why we are flying blind in so many aspects of our foreign policy.
