40 Days of Prayer : Day 21 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:13
In 1748, Jonathan Edwards called for "concerts of prayer" based on Zechariah 8:18-21...The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, "Let us continue to go and pray before the LORD, and seek the LORD of hosts." David Bryant, founder of Concerts of Prayer, uses this passage as well to explain the four key ingredients of anyprayer movement. May we fervently ask God for these four things today. First, may a spirit of hope and urgency prevail. Second, Zechariah called for continual prayer with a correct agenda. They were to "seek the LORD" (the literal Hebrew translates "seek the face of the LORD"). Third, they were to encourage one another to join in prayer, "one city shall go to another" as God's people united in the work of prayer for revival. Fourth, they were to expect an impact through their prayers, so that many would come to seek God's manifest presence in their lives as He moved among His own, v.23, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you."
May we ask in Jesus name for these four things to be awakened in us as we pray during these 40 days so that God our Father may be glorified. Make Charles Spurgeon prayer your own today, "Lord, create the season of Spring within, cause our sap to flow with vigor, and our branch to blossom with high resolve. O Lord, if it is not springtime in my chilly heart, please make it so. Come, Holy Spirit, and renew my soul! " |
