This would truly be a disaster!

I have worked with the NeXT for 6 years and used to work for NeXT the company. Jobs may be a "visionary" and a billionaire but he leaves quite a bit to be desired as far as attaining realistic goals and meeting the bottom line. NeXT has been around for 10 years and has only shown one profitable quarter with Jobs as the CEO -- is that the sort of person you want running your marketing department?

Nobody is really sure what this announcment means. The news article mentions that Apple is buying the "operating system" from NeXT for a "nominal fee". It isn't clear what "operating system" means -- do they just mean the underlying Unix operating system (Mach), or does that include the windowing and development environment too (known as OpenStep)? If the OS changes, what will happen to Apple's existing software products, both internal and 3rd party?
