What if the north and south are secured? Thats where the oil is. Can the pipelines be protected? If necessary can new pipelines be built. Thats where the oil is and that is where the will is to fight. The shiaa will fight hard to prevent sunni domination and they will have help from both the US and Iran. The Kurds can take care of themselves and we have a responsiblity to keep them supplied and at peace with the Turks. Is this any more ludicrous a solution than to sacrifice the lives of 6 americans per day to the sunni terrorists when the iraqi people who live in that region refuse to lift a finger to stop this? I wonder.
As far as the rest of the oil goes--you are the expert. Can Saudi oilfields be taken and held and run by US forces? Can that pipeline be protected?
Please explain how fighting a guerilla war in the thriangle protects anything when we seem to fighting it with one hand tied behind our back and when our ally makes the South Vietnamese govt and army look like a world power. Mike
