One tenth of US two to five year olds obese
31 Dec 2004

A report published by the American Heart Association says one tenth of all American children aged 2-5 were obese in 2002. Ten years ago the figure stood at one in fourteen.

As the study was looking at 2002, experts say the proportion of obese kids aged between 2 and 5 is probably even more alarming now. They say inactivity, bad diet, junk food advertising aimed at kids, fewer families sitting together for meals - are probably contributing to this rise in obesity among America's very young children.

The USA has a serious obesity/overweight problem among its adult population. These figures indicate that the problem (obesity among adults) will get worse. The question everyone is asking is ‘How many obese adults will there be in the USA when these children are grown up?'
