RE- HNFSA I've heard of them and seen their products before. In general, I think the best chance you have with family owned companies who are in control. A one day outright sale for family diversification of assets. This most likely when the next generation doesn't have an interest in running the business. On a much smaller scale it reminds me of a small regional run brand (privately held) called Grandma Browns Baked Beans Based in Mexico NY. I've been by the plant several times going on my way to the Adirondack Mountains.

P.S. An interesting company that recently has come under my radar because of the packaging of a ready to eat food. BRID - Bridgford Foods. I don't own it but it looks interesting because of the ready to eat sandwiches and wraps. I'm not sure as to the intellectual property rights. However it seems the concept could be applied in a big way to Nestles Hot Pockets. Very erratic earnings history, but the company trades under a double digit PE and Protein has been in staple of late in the acquisition court. RE: Hillshire Smithfield
IMO It also seems a nice fit for CAG's Slim Jim/Jack Link brand.
