James, well actually, what I was thinking about was abortion. I believe the Bible speaks against this as murder. But, since you mention it, there are excesses of many types. However, since I'm not knowledgable about Catholics, I don't know any priests who get drunk, nor have I ever heard that. But, anything is possible. Do you have first hand experience with these people? Interesting thought.
Concerning obese Baptist preachers I can speak because I am familiar with some. Personally, I know they try to refrain from eating too much, but as we get older it is the natural tendency of the body in our society to gain weight. God has provided many, many good things for our mouth. Praise His name, I love good food and am always aware of how and what I eat. Also, my wife keeps me in check, wonderful woman. But, like our total life, it's a matter of self-discipline and moderation; some fail, others are successful. Generally, I keep myself busy correcting myself. That is I have a tendency to look at myself and see my own faults. This rather prevents me from spending too much time looking at others faults. God is their judge and mine. I am certainly glad no man will be my judge. God will do it right. We must remember to do good works and glorify our Father. This is difficult to do; God helps us though.
(1 Tim 5:23 NASB) "No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments."
(Luke 7:33 NASB) ""For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine; and you say, 'He has a demon!'" (Luke 7:34 NASB) ""The Son of Man has come eating and drinking; and you say, 'Behold, a gluttonous man, and a drunkard, a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners!'" (Luke 7:35 NASB) ""Yet wisdom is vindicated by all her children.""
Here I think Jesus was cautioning us about being a fault finder and thereby trying to justifying ourself by pointing up others so called failures, not that Jesus had any failures.
This got a little too long! Sorry.
(Col 1:10 NRSV) "so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God."
The secret is trying to please Him and being aware of His presence.
Be constantly in prayer
