There are harmonization efforts going on now to bring all the standards to working with each other in the future. Do a little research on OHG you will see we may move to that direction in the future.

Koreans claimed their WCDMA is compatibla with CDMAone, which is remained to see. But think about it. The reason internet is booming today is because of it's great yet simple philosophy, that is a connecting different networks and makde it works. So there's no reason to believe that it won't happen in the wireless industry in the future.

IMO, any efforts intended to shut out another standard is deemed to fail no matter how powerful that effort is.
