Hi Gustave,

>>Life is a lethal desease! Yet, is it enough a reason to ''fast-forward'' our lives by allowing indiscriminate availability of guns? <<

The gun control crowd thinks that no price in personal liberty is too high in order that a single child's life might be saved.

I believe that all personal liberty is so sacred that none of it should ever be sacrificed for the safety of others.

Have you ever gone out shooting? I think it's a worthwhile activity, simply from a recreational standpoint. There is nothing like "riding" a 400-grain 45/70 down range to where it hits the little target. There is a certainly zen-like quality to shooting for recreation.

At the same time, Americans are misled if they think individual gun ownership is preserving what liberty they still have. The truth is that if the government wants to supress the people, guns usually won't provide viable resistance, for uncle fed has electronic warfare and all sorts of other nasty stuff.

A privately owned firearm signifies protection against gangs and the like during times of natural disaster, such as an earthquake. A 9mm in the purse is reassuring when walking through that underground parking lot at 3 a.m. Rational gun owners understand that that's about as far as it goes. That AK-47 in the closet isn't going to increase your chances of survival in any significant way if the foe turns out to be uncle fed.

If you want to stop the killings in the schools, give the teachers sidearms. Notice how the punks who perpetrate these crimes never choose "hard" targets? They always go somewhere where they think they can kill with impunity, at least for awhile. If there is no place they can go to kill with impunity, perhaps they won't commit the crime, no? If they commit the same kinds of crimes in the face of armed resistance, the casualites should usually be lower. I'll be impressed when a couple of those kinds of punks try to take out a gun show, for instance, instead of the usual whimp-out; the school or McDonald's massacre.

So, I'm against gun control but have no illusions about private firearms being a bastion of protection against governmental tyranny. If you want to stand up to modern tyranny, you've got to have ECM. That assault rifle just doesn't cut it any more.

FWIW
Andy
