"the Asian food is a step behind." I found TONS of great Chinese and Vietnamese food in that bay area. Go eat in SF for truly world class Chinese food. Mt. View, where I used to work, has some superb Vietnamese places. I used to eat Pho at lunch almost every day. Can't really comment on Korean food - I'm not a fan. If you want to see the soul of Silicon Valley, take the wife this weekend and drive north on El Camino Real, through the hearts of all the tech ghettos. It's heart? A 20 mile long chain of cheesy strip malls.. I didn't like living there. I think the quality of life sucks. A great weekend trip - cruise on down to Santa Cruz! Another - across the Golden Gate to the John Muir Woods National Monument. Take your little gay dog.
