I think the phenomenon of 527s is interesting. Would you say that Soros and Moveon.org are counterproductive? Do they convince people who were having a hard time making up their mind, or just tell the already committed what they want to hear?

I am not sure whether Swiftvets put me over any tipping point, but they certainly did not cause me to like Kerry any better, they caused me to like him less.

Actually it was the convention that put me over the tipping point, seeing Jimmy Carter and Ted Kennedy being dusted off and put front and center. Bill Clinton at least pretended to care about the center, the mainstream, the moderates. Al Gore at least chose Lieberman as a running mate. Seeing Jimmy Carter and Ted Kennedy told me everything I did not know about Kerry. He's from the McGovern wing of the party, rejects the philosophies that produced Bill Clinton, Lyndon Johnson, Zell Miller, and yes, John Kennedy and Robert Kennedy.

Bill Clinton's speech at the convention was the dead giveaway. He couldn't point to anything concrete about Kerry's platform qua Kerry, it was all platitudes and vote for him because he's a Democrat. Fainter praise never damned anyone.
