My partner related a story today. He has friends who have a quite nice second home outside town. Their 24ish son was living there with two friends. The weekend before Thanksgiving, they left town and. . . turned the heat off. Monday and Tuesday in the week before Thanksgiving, we hit zero or below. One of the young folks just came home (after 3 week absence) and said, "hmmmm, it sounds like water running." You guessed it. Frozen, burst pipes that ran water into the house for three weeks. If it can be salvaged, the house will have to be stripped back to the studs inside. These people have money. What was the guy thinking, turning the heat off???
