BOOKER RISING COMMENTARY: Keepin' Perspective
By molotov
Booker Rising Blog

Good news! Yesterday University of Georgia's business school came out with a study about minority buying power. Black Americans' gross domestic product (i.e., disposable income) is now up to $728 billion per year. Often we hear assertions that black folks lack capital. Nonsense. If black America was its own country (of 38.3 million folks), it would:

-- be the world's 16th largest economy, out of 231 countries.

-- have the world's 45th best per capita GDP ($18,877). Ahead of countries like Portugal and South Korea.

Our primary challenge is not capital. Rather, it is better deploying the capital we already have so that we produce more goods (especially within our communities) and consume fewer goods. More commentators of all political stripes must see the rising economic forest for the trees, and get upbeat about how our figures can further improve!
