StanX, Thanks for the concern. I feel sad for those people who are suffering as a result of being in an area whose forests are being denuded due to illegal logging. It's a surprise to know Rains are pouring during a supposedly Dry season. The world's climate is really changing.
I know those people will emerge from such disaster stronger, sturdy, and like the Bamboo they just don't break but they just buckle and go along with the sway. Volcanoes, earthquakes, storms and floods are a regular occurrence and the people learn to live with those.
Even man made disasters caused by Political bickerings that drive away foreign businesses so as to leave scores of people unemployed can not discourage people to seek better lives. Even Inflation (2 pesos to a dollar some 50 years ago to 50 pesos to a dollar now) forced people to become hard workers that they seek employment abroad so as to have money to send money home for the college education of their sons and daughters, brothers and sisters and nephews and nieces. Every adversity one endures becomes a Blessing in Disguise. As a result of so many disasters, the Philippines' class composition is becoming from 10% Rich and 90% Poor to a 10% Rich, 10% Poor and 80% Middle Class. The newly moneyed class are at present busy building Homes using Cash (home mortgages are almost non-existent). One can assume that there's a huge “underground” economy going on that despite recessions going on in the US, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and other countries that are a lot more prosperous than the Philippines —- the country is still growing some 2.3% !
Any body can turn a Disaster into a Blessing in Disguise. The disaster that caused AMAT to trade in the 20s (from 115) can become a Blessing by those smart enough to have bought at 30, 40 or more for they can sell later at huge profits —- especially when they have bought LEAPs.
(Incidentally, I once live in the province of Pangasinan —- one of the Ilocano provinces in the Northern Phillipines who started this idea of working abroad. There are about 7.5 million Filipinos with Temporary work abroad and Millions more permanently residing in the US, Canada and others. Almost all all them are sending money regularly to their Folks left behind). |
