Most criminal sociologists will tell you that the economy and demographics are the two major factors in crime. That's the main reason crime was going down in the 90's: the economy was going up and percentage of the population that was most crime-prone (young men) was going down. You say citing our more socialist allies is meaningless. I disagree. Generally speaking, they treat their poor with more compassion (and benefits) than we do. They give single mothers much more help raising their children. And as a result, their poor are less crime-prone than ours. It stands to reason. And the data, for the most part, bears it out. Steve
