#1 Leaders in Servers, Network Hardware, Network OS and Software to Address COMDEX/Fall in Las Vegas PR Newswire - September 26, 1997 10:12 %CPR V%PRN P%PRN Full Week of Keynotes at World's Largest Information Technology Event NEEDHAM, Mass., Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- On November 17, 1997, COMDEX/Fall '97 will feature a keynote presentation by one of the most successful executives in the fiercely competitive computer hardware industry. Eckhard Pfeiffer, President and CEO, Compaq Computer Corporation will address, "Creating A Customer Value and Productivity Revolution In A New Age of Computing," Monday, November 17, at 9 a.m. The lineup of industry leaders at COMDEX/Fall continues throughout the week with: John Chambers, president and CEO of Cisco Systems, Inc., who will present on Tuesday, November 18, at 9 a.m.; and Dr. Eric Schmidt, chairman of the board and CEO of Novell, Inc., who is slated for Wednesday, November 19, at 9 a.m. All keynotes take place at the Aladdin Theater for the Performing Arts. Bill Gates, Chairman and CEO, Microsoft Corporation, will present a first- of-its-kind keynote address Sunday, November 16, at 7 p.m., as a prelude to the opening of the COMDEX/Fall exhibits on Monday morning. Mr. Pfeiffer will discuss how the industry can succeed in bringing more of the benefits of computing - at work, on the road, and at home - to more people. He will give special attention to Compaq's leadership role in advancing a new computing model that combines open standards-based computing with a horizontal market model and the most efficient model of distribution in the PC industry. Pfeiffer was named President and CEO in October 1991 after serving eight years with the company as Executive Vice President and COO, and head of Compaq's international operations. Mr. Chambers of Cisco will address, "The Internet--Changing the Way We Live, Work, Play and Learn." Once the domain of only technical experts, networking and the Internet are today affecting business, schools, hospitals, community and homes. Mr. Chambers will describe how a network-enabled approach to running a business can save companies millions of dollars while giving them a competitive edge. He will also explore the benefits and changes that networking and the Internet are bringing to medicine, education and the community. Just as we can't imagine our lives today without the telephone, Mr. Chambers says, we won't be able to imagine daily life without access to the Internet. Mr. Chambers joined Cisco in 1991 as Executive Vice President. Prior to Cisco, he spent eight years at Wang Laboratories, the last two as Senior Vice President of U.S. Operations. He also spent six years with IBM. Mr. Chambers holds an M.B.A. degree from Indiana University. Mr. Schmidt's keynote will mark his first appearance at COMDEX since taking over the reins at Novell in April as Chairman of the Board and CEO. He recently strengthened Novell's commitment to the groupware business, Web-based network solutions, and centrally managed Internet and intranet access. Before joining Novell, Mr. Schmidt spent 14 years at Sun Microsystems, where he was Chief Technology Officer and Corporate Executive Officer. While at Sun, he was instrumental in the widespread acceptance of Java, Sun's platform-independent programming, and he has continued to champion it at Novell. He has also held positions at the Computer Science Lab at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), Bell Labs and Zilog. Keynote speakers have traditionally used the COMDEX forum as a platform to announce important initiatives and products, and to outline shifts in their strategic vision of the industry. As the world's largest gathering of IT professionals and the media who cover the industry, COMDEX/Fall will again provide the ideal venue for these CEOs to reveal strategy across their entire product lines -- from consumer products to enterprise technologies.
