<<Some regulation would be beneficial; ie. restricting semi-automatic weapon purchases to those over 21 ?>>
James, respectfully, dont you see the slippery slope you're treading on? There are already ample regulations that dont work, why do you assume more regulations will? What happens when the next batch of kiddie murderers gets their hands on their *fathers* semi-automatic weapons? Ban semi-automatics all together? Sell them to only non-parents?
What we should really concentrate on is why kids are suddenly using guns to vent their frustration and anger instead of "traditional" means. There have always been bullies, there have always been "outcasts," but in the past they never turned schoolyards into warzones! I really believe at bottom this is a very important issue of social adjustment, emotional health, and conflict resolution for our children. Criminals are criminals, but children going to school thinking they need a gun or a knife to feel safe? Why suddenly has conflict resolution ceased to be either fight or walk away and suddenly become run or shoot?! Why suddenly have marginalized children suddenly felt justified to vent their frustration with weapons? This is the real debate, IMHO. |
