the biggest cause of poverty is family problems imo.

I believe you are on the right track if not completely accurate. Certainly lack of family values is a large contributor to poverty. It has been my observation that the broken family is far more likely to live in poverty.

Anything that decreases motivation decreases the likelihood fo climbing from poverty. Thus government administered welfare almost always keeps people trapped.
