It's the War on Terrorism, Stupid!

Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004 President Bush and Vice President Cheney must wake up and realize that the most important factor in being re-elected is the war on terrorism. The polls prove this when they are 56 percent for Bush and 38 percent for Kerry as the candidate considered the best at handling the war against terrorism.

The war on terrorism is President Bush’s strongest point, and he must stick to that topic and keep re-emphasizing to all voters, especially the uncommitted, that by fighting abroad he has successfully protected them for almost three years from further attacks in the United States. And the U.N. also bears responsibility for failing to stop the 9/11 attack because it has a duty to keep world peace.
On issues other than the war Bush and Kerry are either in a dead heat or Kerry is a little ahead, which is why it is most important that Bush focus on the war against terrorism.
The Democrats are going to focus heavily on the economy and keep repeating "It's the economy, stupid!" – James Carville's slogan that got Clinton elected and re-elected. For President Bush to focus on the economy instead of the war on terrorism would be fatal to his re-election effort. This is what the Democrats want Bush to do; Bush must not fall into their trap.
President Bush must repeatedly tell voters that his policy of attacking Saddam Hussein, the "father and grandfather of terrorists" ("The Connection: How al Qaeda's Collaboration with Saddam Hussein Has Endangered America," by Stephen F. Hays, p. 93), has protected you from further terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. His policy of not fighting the terrorists in the U.S. but in Iraq was a brilliant strategy; it kept you from being attacked in America.
President Bush cannot tell you every intimate detail about what he is doing, because if he tells you he also will be helping the terrorists plan to defeat his counter-measures against them. The proof that President Bush’s counter-measures are successfully working is that the U.S. has not been attacked again for nearly three years.
The very important reason the war on terrorism and not the economy must have the highest priority is that if the U.S. is attacked, and attacked seriously, the economy of the United States will be in shambles. It is far more important for President Bush to protect the economy from being ruined by a terrorist attack than to nitpick over whether the economy is doing as well as it could.
The issue of the economy is unimportant if the economy is nearly destroyed by a terrorist attack. In addition to protecting you from a terrorist attack, Bush must be given credit for successfully protecting the American economy from a terrorist attack.
President Bush has successfully handled the war on terrorism and protected this country from further terrorist attack. If Kerry’s delaying policy of working through the United Nations had been followed, the terrorists would have had time to regroup and most likely would have again struck, killing many of you. Therefore, the re-election of President Bush is critical in this age of terrorism. |
