Do you think Gates/Microsoft were necessarily backed into the operating system paths they chose (given they valued 'user friendliness' as paramount) or were there alternate direction choices that might have been made? I don't think necessarilly user friendlyness as much as trying to preserve backward compatibility and not understanding the the scope of growth that their deisgn would have to endure which leads to making rash short term oriented decisions that have not scaled well. Its not childs play but its gonna have to be fixed or it will all blow up or I may go insane... :) Sean
