Company Press Release

SPECTRUM Opens Door to
Multi-Vendor VLAN Management

Launches Industry's First Switch
Management Tool Offering Customers VLAN
Control of Any Installed, Standards-based Hardware

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 1999--SPECTRUM today unveiled another
industry-first with its SPECTRUM VLAN Manager -- the only software capable of seeing,
reporting and managing connections, bandwidth and users within switched, multi-vendor
environments. The new product will be demonstrated live at Networld + Interop and can be seen
managing different vendors' hardware products and operating seamlessly with SPECTRUM's
core product as well as Hewlett Packard's OpenView.

SPECTRUM's is the first VLAN management solution that allows enterprise and service provider
customers to intelligently orchestrate their entire switching fabric regardless of the vendors'
products deployed in the network. Previously, VLANs could only be managed if the installed
hardware was from a single vendor, greatly limiting what customer's could accomplish in terms
of real-world adds, moves and changes. In order to provide customers a central database to
store all the information for their network, SPECTRUM VLAN Manager is directory enabled
through its support of Netscape's Directory Server with future support for Novell Directory
Services (NDS(TM)), Microsoft Active Directory and Siemens DirX.

``SPECTRUM continues to demonstrate leadership in applying strong technology to real
management problems. Other than SPECTRUM, multi-vendor management capability has been
almost non-existent, resulting in a proliferation of overlapping point tools that consume more
staff time for training and administration,' said John McConnell, of McConnell Associates,
Boulder, CO. ``Using Directory Enabled Networking (DEN) increases harmony and span of
control, as well as offering future opportunities to interoperate with other DEN-based
management solutions.'

Design features of the SPECTRUM VLAN Manager provide optimal utilization of bandwidth for
business critical applications and diverse data resources. As a Services Provider tool, the new
VLAN solution offered added flexibility to secure traffic for each customer, enabling complete
traffic isolation that ensures data privacy in multi-tenant building environments.

The SPECTRUM VLAN Manager will create, delete, and synchronize all VLAN configurations in
a switched infrastructure, leveraging the IETF Bridge MIB with 802.1Q extensions.
SPECTRUM's new VLAN Manager will also centralize administrative efforts by allowing
customers to retrieve status updates, set QoS priorities and manage switch configurations from a
single workstation. These features enable IT managers to maximize their administrative
resources for increased productivity while lowering administrative costs.

``SPECTRUM is extending an open invitation to any vendor that would like to have their product
tested with the SPECTRUM VLAN Manager,' said Patrick Kelly, SPECTRUM's director of
product management. ``Because most IT managers live in real-world multivendor environments,
SPECTRUM has designed and delivered a solution that unifies VLAN management and
monitoring while masking the complexity of today's IT infrastructures.'

Pricing and Availability

Available in November 1999, SPECTRUM VLAN Manager Version 2.0 is priced at $10,995 for a
single server license. The solution can be integrated with the SPECTRUM core package or run
as a separate application on top of other EMS solutions. Additional information for SPECTRUM
