Hi Mark - Right now, the laws do not allow anything greater than, I think, 156 bit encryption. In a previous post, I indicated that there is a lot of pressure being brought to bear on the US gov't to allow far greater encryption levels. When a multinational bank suffers losses in the millions because their data has been compromised, they're not going to give a whit about what the US gov't says.

But I think we might be missing the point here. They are going to issue this $5M challenge which should generate unbelievable publicity. So if you're a potential buyer of encryption software, why not go with best - even if you can't take full advantage of the highest level TODAY. If I were selling Jaws, I would say "Well, we'll start you off with 156 bit today and, when it's legal, we'll automatically update you to 4096 or 16K+". Now I'm not suggesting that it's necessarily going to be that simplistic, but I hope you get my drift.
