I'm no expert...however...

I think it's always good to have at least a little cash on hand in markets like this. Your recent move into CSCO feels right to me as well but this has been a screwy market. James Cramer, the flamboyant hedge fund manager, said recently in his on-line column that there was no way to figure this market out. Companies that have reported stellar earnings have seen their stocks selling off, while some that reported marginal results haven't been nicked. Whisper numbers add to "behind the scenes" volatility while fundamentals are ignored (at least in the near term).

What I meant in comparing the BTD stocks to PMSI was their movement on down days.

You said that, "In fact, most of my investment successes have been
buying excellent companies that were out of favor without good reason. However, that strategy usually requires considerable patience..." Ah, yes...patience and the danger that one is too early to the game. However, in most situations this DOES work and allows one the traditional "margin of safety" one should seek when committing funds to the market. (Although it's tough as hell to sit with your darlings while the S&P climbs a stairway to heaven...)
