The government could do many things to promote business. An effective energy policy could create allot of jobs in the USA and make a dent in escalating energy costs. Think coal mines, trains, coal generation plants. The same for nuclear.

The work environment could be more stable perhaps if the government spent less time demonizing industry and loading them up with onerous environmental concerns.

How about doing something to make sure kids graduate HS and have some marketable skills. Programming so many kids to go to college for jobs that are not going to be there makes little sense.

You dont really have to close the borders if you crucify business operators hiring illegal aliens. Besides we can certainly do 90% better than we have been. Come up with an effective legal migrant worker program.

Perhaps controlling was the wrong word.

The angst or bitterness is with a government that cannot address middle america's concerns. The legislative and executive branch are the just targets for this angst. Not just the executive branch.
