Here's a non-partisan yuk-yuk (..no extra charge..): The Saga of the 'Dumb Bird'
My kitchen window looks out onto the front yard and drive, with a portion of the garage wall viewable to one's left. There is a nice 20'+ pencil pine at the corner of the garage, a small berry tree directly in front of the kitchen window, and lots of evergreen bushes right up against the house. Consequently, I have a collection of feathery friends who stop by for chow and occasionally enforce their squatters rights in the pine tree. I fill their feeders in the winter time, and they reciprocate with pleasant twitterings the rest of the year.
Just a few days ago, I started noticing a "..thump.." every so often coming from that part of the house. While refilling my java mug yesterday, I observed this over-sized wren-type critter nervously hopping about from limb to limb in the berry tree - then, every so often, he would take a fly at the kitchen window and bang his feet on it...!!!
My mother had long ago hung a stained-glass ornament of a small bird in the upper center of the kitchen window that appears to be sitting on a twig and eyeing a group of red berries at the end. Apparently '..Woodstock's..' wacko cousin in the berry tree felt that the 'ornamental bird' was "..off-sides.." and deserving of a 5-yard penalty and loss of down...!!!
Applying the scientific method, I took the ornament down for a while and the "..thumps.." stopped. Replacing it again resulted in further aggravated assaults against my inanimate house guest.
I've since moved the 'ornamental bird' to the big bay window in front of the dining area, and peace has returned to Hacienda Hollen.
Blessed be the peacemaker, .........dumb bird.
John :-)
ps: I wonder if moving the liveried 'lawn boy' out by the mailbox would have the same effect on Demoncrats.... . |
