Regarding ASML. It is important to note that ASML has found it necessary to pursue a step-and-scan approach (though they have not produced any capability data to date that I am aware of). The DUV 300 has been very successful, but ASM knows it will not be competitve without step-and-scan in the longer run. The step-and-scan brings capability that cannot be matched without it. (Field size, but more importantly across field resolution control and overlay control).

Talking with people working for the stepper companies (including ASM and others) an interested point is consistantly raised. The relationship that each stepper company has formed can be more important than their product set. The point is that Micron is going to continue with ASM, just as Intel will continue with SVG for DUV and the japanese companies with Nikon and Canon (just for examples).

Not that ASM is not good (they are kicking butt)!! It is important to know who has relationships with whom. In SVG's case the relationships are with: Intel (#1 by far), Motorola, IBM, IT, AMD, Samsung and others. (The first 4 also own stock). Not bad company.
