Quantum Corporation (NASDAQ/NMS:QNTM),
Milpitas, Calif., a market leader in solid state disk (SSD)
technology, has introduced the Quantum Rushmore Ultra,
the newest addition to its ultra fast Rushmore family of solid
state disks.

Using DRAM technology, the Rushmore Ultra SSDs offer
users one of the fastest access times to time-critical
information stored in mid-range to high-end server
applications such as database transactions, real-time video
streaming, RAID configurations, and the World Wide Web.

Quantum's Rushmore Ultra SSDs offer throughput of up to
8,000 I/O requests per second and access times of less than
60 microseconds, providing near-instantaneous access to
time-sensitive data. Employing a SCSI-3 interface, the
Rushmore Ultra SSDs provide sustained data transfer rates
of more than 30 megabytes per second (MB/s), which is
100 to 200 times faster than conventional storage solutions.
The drives offer storage capacities up to 1.6GB, which is
the highest in the industry.

"Quantum's solid state disk technology will provide our
server system customers with an unprecedented competitive
advantage by providing reduced access times to heavily
used files," said Dave Coombs, vice president, sales and
marketing at Digital. "Our customers who use databases,
RAID configurations, video streaming technology and the
World Wide Web, just to name a few applications, can
dramatically improve productivity with solid state disks."

"An ideal storage system would allow instantaneous access
to unlimited amounts of critical information, like the human
brain," said Charlie Cassidy, director of marketing, storage
systems. "Quantum's Rushmore Ultra SSDs offer
near-instantaneous access and scaleable capacities that
significantly boost system performance, at competitive price
points."

DRAM prices have continued to drop dramatically, allowing
Quantum to pass on cost savings for its SSD technology to
end users. With today's announcement, the cost of high-end
SSD performance has now dropped to below $40/MB
MSRP, which makes SSD a very competitive technology
when compared to mid-range server memory upgrades.

"Based on the activity we've seen, particularly in the RAID
markets, we believe the time for solid state disks is right
now, especially when you look at the cost and performance
benefits," said Jason Golz, manager of removable storage
projects at Peripheral Research. "Quantum is clearly the
leader in this technology in terms of products and
marketshare."

As demand for high-speed access to data continues to
grow, users can easily add additional Rushmore Ultra SSDs
because of their easy-to-use plug-and-play feature.
Industries such as finance, travel, telecommunications,
manufacturing, transportation, insurance and others that
depend upon fast response times now have more affordable
options for accessing time-critical data.

Quantum's Rushmore Ultra SSDs are available in standard
3.5-inch and 5.25-inch form factors. The Rushmore Ultra
SSDs are available in capacities from 134MB to 1.6GB for
non-volatile drives, meaning they have an integrated data
retention system, and in capacities from 536MB to 804MB
in the volatile configuration.

In a separate announcement, Quantum rounded out its
Rushmore family of products by announcing the Rushmore
NTE solid state disk products, positioned specifically for
PC server systems. Quantum's Rushmore NTE SSDs now
allow NT server I/O performance levels, formerly available
only in the mid-to-high-end UNIX server range, with no
extensive system upgrades. The low-end Rushmore NTE
SSDs are now available for less than $20/MB MSRP.

Pricing and Availability

Quantum's Rushmore Ultra SSDs are available immediately.
Pricing starts at $6,750 MSRP for the 134MB drive.
